I do not know how possible it is to code per day uses, this could translate into how we have current ability uses im sure. Either way, excellent suggestion.

Don't we already have per-day abilities? Shapechange?

Turn undead as well. *shrug*

You do not need to change the world, merely leave it a little better than how you found it.

What spell would this translate into, Selveem?

Polar Ray?

*ducks*

Just kidding. I dunno. Could just be a set value damage that increases per level.

Searing Light

Evocation
Range: Ranged Touch
Target: Offensive
Syntax: cast 'searing light' <target>

Focusing divine power like a ray of the sun, you project a blast of light from your open palm. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack to strike your target. A creature struck by this ray of light takes damage. Undead suffer more damage, and constructs suffer less.

In a sense we have per day uses, heres how it works, at certain times of the day you recoup a ability, however that allows you to cast it right before the time changes and bam you can use it right away again. What I think would work is to take the code from spell memorisation and use it but lengthen the time a spell take to recoup and modify to the time of 24 game hours. This may be as it is now, but I am under the impression it is the earlier.

...you say that like it is a bad thing?

I can't really see a problem if someone uses their abilities a few minutes before the hour they get them back or if they use them three hours before.

Hmm. That does mean perday..when the day end and resets wouldn't they technically get it back even if it was a few moments? I have seen it done in table tops when a cleric used up his spells per day right at the end and got them back when the new day began just an hour later.

Although if it was made from a mem cast type non casters couldn't use it. Like how Drow cannot cast faerie fire currently due to how magic is set up -chuckle- Probably would ruin Searing light for normal casters to

Erm... I, for one, really do not like the theme of it.

If we start having people shoot rays of light from their eyes, we might as well force them to wear red and blue capes, then enable them to fly at will or shoot strands of web from their wrist.

I'm not mocking the idea, but this really sounds too much like "super heroes" to me, and I can't help but hear in my mind the sounds that often accompanied such "hero power" display in the very old cartoons I watched when I was a kid.

What is D&D to you? To me, it's full of Heroes and Villians. Further, rangers have many divine spells. Does that make them Heroes or Villians? Thri-Kreen have special powers such as blur that they can do naturally. There are plenty of races who get a 'per day use' ability. Look at the Drow who aren't even descended of any sort of Celestial/Fiend (they, to my knowledge, were 'made' by a God but not through any sort of breeding). Aasimar are descendants of full Celestial beings. Those who key their bodies into unlocking the secrets .. the potential of their bloodline are bound to find the benefits. It's not that this would be a spammed ability, anyhow - you get it once a 24 hour period. That's _if_ you have the feats. :)

Also, we already have races here that can fly at will (once per day?)- Air Genasi.

No, no, no, you misunderstood me.

I am fine with "per day" abilities.

It's the "rays shooting from the eyes" thing that I have a hard time seeing in the Forgotten Realms. It's all fine in a Superman movie, but, for some reason, it doesn't fit in how I imagine the Realms.

Both FK and FR already have beings who possess this ability:

"A beholder's eyes each possess a different magical ability; the main eye projects an anti-magical cone, and the other eyes use different spell-like abilities (disintegrate objects, transmute flesh to stone, cause sleep, slow motion of objects, charm animals, charm humans, cause death, induce fear, levitate objects, and cause serious wounds.)."

"The most striking characteristic of female medusae is the mass of writhing poisonous snakes atop their heads. They otherwise appear as humans of their gender, save for their fangs and scaly skin. Like the gorgon of legend, a female medusa's gaze can turn one into stone."

I personally think it would be nice to see more people wanting to play goodies that actually adventure out past Waterdeep. I think giving some nice feats to complement and encourage this may prove useful.

So, you want to compensate for the lack of players outside of Waterdeep by giving out god-mode feats to remove any risk of leaving? I respectfully disagree. Death in FK is a big RP event to me; talking to friends from the grave, body retrieval, finding a priest (or paying those silly NPC priests), ect. Not saying I like seeing people die left and right, but if we simply hand out god-mode abilities to encourage travel we'll sacrifice quite a bit on the RP aspect.

I'm not sure if you intended to accuse me of anything, but I was hardly suggesting anything remotedly "god-mode." I suggested a feat that has a use once per day. I did not specify anything regarding actual damage. And, further, even if I chose to do so, actual implementation has absolutely nothing to do with what I want. It is evaluated by the Administrators of Forgotten Kingdoms.

This is a complementary feat. It is a combat-oriented feat. If you want to talk about balance in power regarding killing, I humbly request one takes a look at domain spells and compare good-aligned Gods' spells in comparison to evil-aligned Gods' spells.

Not acusing you of anything, Selveem. Not at all. Only dislike the idea of creating unbalancing feats and abilities to draw 'more' folks out of Waterdeep (I enjoy travel myself *shrug*) at the cost of the RP aspects resulting from travel. Opinions, not arguements.

I'm still not quite sure how you have come to suggest that a one-use-per day spell with an unspecified amount of damage is unbalancing... Could you elaborate on this?

They can't actually fly. They get levitate as spell (so I'm not sure if non-spellcasting class genasi can even use their spell-like abilities), but it only lasts "a while" and levitate is of limited usefulness compared to fly.
