What is the point of this thread, and what am I suggesting? Basically, I suggest a way for players to submit news to a place saying "Oh, I had a wizard duel here with many fireballs and lightning bolts..." and with a (short) description of the roleplay, send in a new room description. So, for example, in a room in a tavern if two mages for example blew it up, the player interested in changing the look of the tavern could write in and have a description saying: "Everything in this room looks burned and smouldered. Ashes still linger on the floor and there is a heavy scent of sulphur around. Sometimes, the magical forces can still be felt to crackle."
Obviously, the imms could vet this. No blatant destroying of Ahghairon's tower, for example.
Benefits to this:
a) Player actions have direct consequences
b) It adds variations to areas that are often just the same
c) It encourages player participation in area-building even if on tiny scale
d) It adds history to the game. Imagine saying, "Oh, that tavern? Yes, blown up in a duel between Blah and Blah2 in an inferno that had most of the city awake... bad times... bad times" (or whatever)
Drawbacks:
a) Permanent changes to areas removing quests/faith things?
Response: well, every potential change is vetted. Also, I am not talking about a widescale change of quests, items, mobs, etc. Just a tweaking occasionally of a room description.
Any thoughts?
