Am I hiding or not?

Post by Velius » Sat Oct 20, 2007 2:14 pm

I can't see any real difference ( on-screen ) that indicates whether or not I am visible or invisible.
Would it be a good idea to have it coded into the game that the color of the text changes when we go invis?

Whether you are invisible or not (as per the spell) can be checked with "affect".

As for hidden or not, you can't really know. Though perhaps an indicator that you are trying to hide would be interesting.

Yeah, I was playing my thief and I thought it'd be cool if there were a way to tell whether or not I was hiding. I walked into a room with about 6 goblins thinking I was hiding and I got swarmed. Thanks for the input

If the goblins saw you, my guess would be that you weren't hiding.

The logic behind not providing the info on hiding is that your PC wouldn't be able to tell whether or not he was successful. It is the reaction of others that lets you know. The idea of letting the player know if they are attempting to hide is a good one.

Invisibility is different because the invisible PC can easily tell whether or not he/she is in such a state, thus the "affect" command cited above.

But it gives an echo if your attempt to hide was successful when you type hide. At least I always see it.

dort, wo zwischen Grabkreuzen Mohnblumen blühn,
da flüstern die Gräser und wiegen sich leicht
im Wind, der sanft über das Gräberfeld streicht.

I always thought this was a bit strange. I mean, no, you wouldn't know if you were detected or not, but at least you would know if you were trying to hide or sneak. You would determine how well you were doing it from the reactions of others.

Also, when using speed sneak, does it automatically make you try and sneak when you move or do you still have to type sneak or whatnot?

Gwain raises an eyebrow.
