A few players were discussing this and we hadn't decided on a proper name. Basically this spell will allow you to hear tells, not otells, in the same room as you as well as give a bonus to your listen checks.

There is a level 1 bard spell that gives you +20 to listen checks, it is named amplify.

Or it could be Detect Thoughts.
*cough*
Since I was one of the ones discussing this, I, of course, think it would be a great addition. It should be restricted to the room you are in, and you could hear all tells being sent to and from that room.

Boy, I'm Mr. Negative today. I don't like the idea, I think it is unbalancing.
But IF I did like the idea, I'd want ... c "detect thoughts" pname
That way you get ONE person's thought in that room, not everyone in the room. I also think, IF I did like the idea, that the person being monitored would have a chance to know it was happening (Int, Wis)

Actually, yes, the Detect Thoughts spell gives you a WILL save to detect your thoughts being scried, as I recall.
And, like many mind divination spells, it is thwarted by Mind Blank.
There's the balance.

I thought that amulets of communication are now taken to use verbal content rather than 'mind speech'? We created the 'whispering' echo at the time of the change.

Um, I was unaware. I thought that it was just verbal when you spoke _into_ it - from there, goes to someone's mind..?
If that's the case, everyone should get a listen check for eavesdropping both sides of the conversation naturally and I think that may be kind of cheesy..
