Petition - Delete or revise drunk code

Post by Lystianna » Thu Dec 15, 2016 1:21 pm

I think the title speaks for itself. :)

Please at least dispense with the forced emotes that drunk code currently foists on us. Perhaps replace the emotes with just some kind of message (that only the drunk toon can see) just how drunk they are?

Seems a fair request to me. Should just show up on the affets list or as one of the messages in your state of mind at most.

I've never even drooled whilst,, ahem,, blind drunk.
Or hiccupped. Never actually seen anyone hiccup when drunk. Always thought that was a looney tunes stereotype.

Any reason I'm missing for why this should be sticking around? I've seen similar on other muds so I assume it was part of the default setting as it were.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

Yes, seconded. I am not a fan of the current drunk system.

I do like the part that makes you go in random directions, though.

Wall slamming and confused reversed directions are welcome

I am a hiccuper after just one sip!

That said, I would be for the visible echoes to be done away with. I like the idea of echoes for only the drunk person and something on the affect list so you know how long it will last. I also like the staggering! I think perhaps some sort of dexterity hit, or maybe even an INT or WIS hit would be in order.

I just do not want to see characters drinking ridiculous amounts with no consequences. I happen to like the drunk code actually, but I do no think all of our characters would be as much of a lightweight as I am in real life.

I'm with Aveline. I don't want to see people drinking barrels full of alcohol with no penalty. Even Eyja has her limits! :P
Maybe things like "Bob looks flushed" "Sara's voice seems to be a little loud" "You suddenly find everything a little too funny" "Joe's face irritates you" "You REALLY have to pee" ect... something fun!
Personally, alcohol makes me laugh a lot, then fall asleep. (oh, the stories I could tell about other people...)
I love how the current code makes PC's words slur. Different alcohols have done that to me. (I'm looking at you, tequilla...)

What I find amusing is being assigned a drunken persona, but, of course, it's hidden. Let's say, Pete is a very happy drunk, Dana is a sleepy drunk, Moe is an angry drunk, and Bill gets a little too buddy buddy.

The slurred text is best text and I wish it carried over to smotes. Overall though, other expressions can definitely be smoted and role played. You don't have to actually down a drink to be drunk, you can smote it. Plenty of times my character has had a crapton to drink and she's fine when really she'd probably need her stomach pumped. I think the code works well for intended purpose. If it was a matter of having this changed, or skills/feats repaired, I would definitely bid for those first. The game is a volunteer base with only so many hands in the coding pot.

It's a fair suggestion if they were taking a slew of tickets to handle for fun, but ultimately in the scheme of things I'd rather more pressing things be tended.

I too dislike the drunken hiccups and random drooling. Never have I done that in real life myself. Now, slurring and throwing up when drinking too much? Perfectly fine to keep to show just how drunk you are.

And I like the idea too of everyone having a hidden drunken attitude. I myself have been a happy drunk, a sad drunk and even passed out completely from what others have said. Perhaps a hidden echo that states what type of mood you are while you are drunk at that time for people to play off of for rp would work as what was stated above. It would make for some interesting RP and encounters.

I don't know if this is hardcode, but if it is then yes. It likely is a limited pot of hands handling it. I have said similar things in the past but in the way of these things my view has shifted somewhat.

I'll leave it up to the hard coders to decide what is more important. As long as the game visibly improves periodically. Its a win in my book.

There are nifty items out there that will sober you almost immediately though. I'd propose however that we revive the function of neutralise poison spells removing drunken status like we had briefly years ago.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

This would be nice. I've only ever seen items that remove the drunken status and replaced it with another fun one, but never completely removed.

I have done everything the drunk code has us do currently irl except hiccup. Those are random curses from the Gods.

I'd love to see hangover affects added to drinking.

I use the exhaustion effect to represent hang overs in 5e. Maybe a static non cumulative -2 to everything, like an altered fatigue effect.

Also have always appreciated games where you can die from alcohol poisoning.

I would be against removing the emotes. As Zethanon suggested, you can roleplay drinking, although then the bar keeper would be really upset if you are getting drunk without paying him a coin for this "blessed" state.

But we are not in real-life, right? ;)
And certainly you can't control your body when you are seriously drunk, not to mention you have memory holes afterwards as well (but again, this is in real life, so perhaps in FK they remember everything very clearly :D ).
No! I don't want to be a "Sword Novice"! I wish to be a "Whip" or "Crossbow Novice"! Swords are so... mundane...
